| Abstract: | In the beginning of the paper the authors provide theoretical aspects of FDI and economic growth - the role of transnational corporations (TNCs) in facilitating technological and organizational change and the role of FDI in economic growth. Then there is the part about principal determinants of FDI flows. The next part considers the development of FDI flows (1990-2000). Following parts consider the themes: FDI and the balance of payments, the direct effect of FDI on economic growth (evidence from the developing economies, direction of causation, FDI and growth in the transition economies) and FDI and productivity spillovers in the transition economies (FDI in east European manufacturing industry, a simple test for productivity spillovers at the industry level, testing for productivity spillovers at the enterprise level). |
