Abstract: | This paper explores the characteristics of development activities performed by companies individually and jointly through public-private (henceforth as: p-p.), private-nonprofit (as: p-n.) and tripartite (as: t-p.) partnerships (as: p-ships). Using multinationals originating from the Netherlands as empirical setting, it is found that p-n. p-ships are most common, with t-p. and p-p. p-ships only emerging, also due to divergent views btw. business and government. Most p-ships are directly linked to companies' core activities or focus on the sector or supply chain. A macro development orientation mostly occurs in (t-p. or bilateral) p-ships involving nonprofit organizations. |
