Abstract: | Many executive information systems efforts fail because information alone is insufficient to guarantee organizational effectiveness. Information must produce knowledge, and that knowledge must be combined with a strategic management style to be effective. The best information with the most insightful knowledge is sterile in the hands of a short-sighted executive. The lessons learned in a business unit implementation of an executive information system (EIS) are explored. The necessary conditions for an EIS to improve organizational effectiveness are discussed. A diagnostic model for management use is presented. The reasons why an EIS needs transformational leadership are highlighted. |
