Abstract:The article investigates the influence of employees' age in the quantity and quality of ideas submitted through suggestion systems. The investigation uses SOC theory and the deficit model. Data from suggestion systems of a large European firm in two German locations were collected and analyzed. The results indicate no support for the deficit model as all hypotheses based on it were rejected. The paper argues that managers should question assumptions of declining innovativeness with age when evaluating their employees.
