| Abstract: | The diffusion of innovations is discussed. Literature about the topic is reviewed. A definition is presented for innovation. Innovations in the field of transport are examined. Effects on the society are highlighted. A model is introduced for social change. General characteristics of innovators are described. The adoption of innovations is modelled. The case of the British High Speed Train is described. The scope of the study was limited to a sample of passengers travelling on public rail. The data collection method is outlined. An attitude index is elaborated. Differences between the High Speed Train and other innovations are demonstrated. Managerial implications are summarized. |
