Abstract:Reasons why the USA is interested in a bilateral free trade agreement are presented. The current state of economic relations between the USA and Mexico are discussed. The impact of a USA-Mexico free trade agreement on the manufacturing, agricultural, investment, service, and energy sector of the industry in the USA is examined, the manufacturing and agricultural sector seem to be threatened by low-wage Mexican competition. But the USA may benefit directly by increasing efficiency in the domestic market, by gaining access to a market of 86 million people, by the reduction of illegal immigrants and of drugs being traded accross the border.
