Abstract: | Current perspectives on worker participation among American corporations and labour unions are surveyed. It is concluded that a pervasive hostility between labour and management causes multinationals in the USA not to understand mandatory worker participation standards in the European Community (EC). Standards laid down in the Treaty of Rome, the Fifth Directive and the Vredeling Proposal as well as business response to them are discussed, conflicting views on the prospects of harmonization of EC law on worker participation are examined. Member State worker participation standards are presented, their impact as well as EC rules' impact on multinational investments is evaluated. |
