Abstract:The term 'family firm' is often used to refer to companies which are described as being 'like a happy family'. The authors explore into links between life at home and life at work. Different types of families are discussed, such as the traditional patriarchal nuclear family and the matriarchal family, which is claimed to be more compassionate and less hierarchical. The article analyses the advantages and disadvantages for workers in a women-only environment and in a male dominated company. Sexual harassment and exploitation of women are discussed on the basis of interviewing the workers of three small firms "Techeng", "Transformer Ltd", and "Wellmaid".
