Abstract: | Four strategic types: prospectors, defenders, analysers and reactors are considered in the study, exploring the Miles and Snow typology in the context of a highly volatile industry of catalogue and mail-order houses. The following results have been obtained: 1). Reactors demonstrate a significantly lower ROA than all other business. 2). Reactor business experience a revenue growth rate significantly lower than that of other businesses. 3). Prospector businesses experience a revenue growth rate significantly higher than that of other businesses. Prospectors in the industry experience greater sales growth due to their ability to identify and exploit new product and market opportunities. 4).Businesses can successfully compete with combination strategies. |
