Abstract:The article describes a new conception of corporate strategy which the authors call "capabilities-based competition". the astonishing reversal of fortunes represented by Kmart and Wal-Mart is considered. Today Wal-Mart is the largest and highest profit retailer in the world. The authors explore into the secret of Wal-Mart's Success, claiming that it lies in a set of strategic business decisions that transformed the company into a capabilities-based competitor. The starting point was a relentless focus on satisfying customer needs. The key components of Wal-Mart's logistic infrastructure are a "cross-docking" technique and fast and responsive transportation system.
