Abstract: | Globe Metallurgical Inc. is well-known as the first small company to win the Malcolm Baldridge National Quality Award in 1988. Globe's eight-year transformation came about in the day-to-day crucible of management. Faced with a series of crises, Globe found what worked - and what worked are the innovations that today make cutting-edge companies. Leading the company through the changes was chief executive Arden C. Smith. In this interview, he claims that "to initiate change, you have to be tenacious and not be afraid of getting a little dirt under your fingernails". |
