Abstract: | Complete segmentation has yet to be documented empirically in finance, even though there is evidence on mild segmentation. The Korean stock market provides an ideal environment for the testing of complete segmentation given the significant barriers that precluded foreign investors from participating in that market. Complete segmentation of the Korean market in Pacific context as well as in a global context is examined. Evidence in this study indicates that the complete segmentation hypothesis explains the Korean market well. This implies that the recent liberalization of the Korean market would have definite impacts on the cost of capital for Korean firms. |
