Abstract: | New vocational standards for human resource specialists are now in the final testing phase. Tony McKiddie, project director at the Personnel Standards Lead Body, outlines the thinking behind them. The research showed that qualifications are deemed useful by employers if they relate directly to performance and ability to perform; reflect individuals' experience; offer some guarantee that performance has met agreed criteria; encourage a broad theoretical understanding of key issues; include a conceptual component at higher levels and measure an individual's ability to think strategically. |
