Abstract:In the midst of the telecommunications revolution, businesses are jockeying for positions of competitive advantage. In their quest to stay at the forefront of technology, multinational firms must adhere to the laws and restrictions of the countries in which they operate. These laws differ by country and region. The main characteristics of current and new telecommunications technology are described. The information system of a multinational company and its economic, political, legal and cultural environments are discussed. Some of the restrictions placed on transborder data flow into and out of various countries are examined, as well as proposed legislation and its impact on telecommunications services and the socio-cultural environment.
