Abstract: | Over the past year or so, around seven hundred private radio stations sprang up , gecekondu-style, in Turkey. In April of this year, they were declared illegal and summarily closed down by the Demirel government in a dawn raid, along with a number of the private television channels that had similarly come into being. |
