Abstract:The authors model the development of the market area around a newly opened retailer in terms of the diffusion of individual consumer adoptions across time and space. The large number of such events in an economic society and the paucity of studies on market-area evolution make the subject an important one. For a profit-seeking diffusion propagator tied to a particular location , likelihood of success is closely related to the speed and spatial pattern of consumer adoptions.
