| Abstract: | This article, which draws on Invest in Britain Bureau (IBB) data and three recent surveys of foreign owned companies (FOCs) in the West Midlands region (WMR), shows that other EC countries were the major source of foreign direct investment (FDI) flows to the region in the 1980s. In this respect the WM is different from other major UK host regions for FDI. This article seeks to explore some of these differences. The main characteristics of FDI flows are briefly summarized as well. |
