Abstract:Positive actions and targets have no place in "managing diversity" - an approach to equal opportunities which aims to realise the potential of all employees rather than focussing on particular groups. The authors suggest how organizations can manage diversity effectively to ensure it does not become just an empty slogan. The authors give their definition of diversity, state how it differs from equal opportunity, examine positive action and targets and explain why they do not fit easily within a managing diversity framework.
