Abstract: | The convergence of poor and rich regions is a key economic issue. Only if poor regions grow faster than richer ones, they can catch up and close existing income caps. Standard neoclassical growth models predict such an economic convergence: because of diminishing returns to capital, poor economies have high rates of return and therefore grow faster than richer regions. Contrarily, models of endogenous growth typically do not imply convergence of economies with different per capita income. |
