Abstract:The benefits of expert systems are often ovesold to the business community by supporters and vendors. Performance of implemented expert systems frequently does not measure up to the unrealistic expectations of the users and managers. Thus, the business community increasingly views these claims with skepticism and disappointment. This article presents a comprehensive view of current expert systems in order to assess this potentially powerful technology more objectively.
