Abstract:This article describes research into the development of a time-based strategy which can be used effectively to restructure manufacturing organizations. The first part contains a summary of organizational practice and looks critically at how uncoordinated planning of technological investments, an excessive focus on control and poor organization result in low value adding characteristics. The second part describes the development of a time-based framework which can be used to audit the production system, provide strategic direction and guide implementation and investment. Results show how powerful this approach can be.
