Abstract: | The potential of advanced manufacturing technology such as FMS and CIM to improve the strategic and competitive position of firms has been extensively documented. However, the benefits of these technologies are sensitive to maintenance management and maintenance policies. The failure of a single component cannot only idle an expensive piece of equipment, but can also idle an entire production process. Most of the maintenance policies are developed for conventional stand-alone machinery. This paper evaluates 5 of these maintenance policies in the complex, highly integrated, computerized environment of FMS. |
