Abstract:In the wake of the Greenbury committee's report, Eileen Fursland looks at the philosophy behind a movement which believes that people should be paid according to their needs, not according to how senior they are in the organisation. In recent months pay determination has been one of the hottest topics in the field of employment, thanks to Greenbury and the privatised utilities, in particular. One unusual pay system has been adopted by the anthroposophic movement, which aims to put into practice the ideas of Rudolf Steiner, the Austrian philosopher who died in 1925.
