Abstract:Previous technological revolutions have eventually created more jobs than they displaced. Can we assume that this will happen with microelectronics? When people are valued by their productivity, what will happen to society when conceptual "machines" are increasingly more productive than humans? And when these machines represent a near-perfect embodiment of the "control" function, do they accomplish a "subversive enhancement" of human labour?
