Abstract: | Both Motorola and Corning have implemented self-managing teams, in which units of 10 to 25 employees at Corning and 4 to 120 at Motorola make decisions previously made by supervisors or managers. Each company pursued a different path in implementation, but both are pleased with the results and believe the considerable effort and expense are amply repaid by gains in efficiency, quality, and productivity. |
