| Abstract: | The paper reviews the current state of assessment in higher education institutions in the United kingdom in the light of the introduction of government sponsored standardized National Vocational Qualifications and their widespread adoption by British Universities and the piloting of General National Vocational Qualifications. This marks a new stage in intervention in higher education by government bodies in the United Kingdom. A review of current practice indicates that assessment processes fall well short of what is desirable. |
