Abstract:The process of competitive intelligence (CI) is a core capability which firms need to develop if they are to succeed in the twenty-first century. CI programs and the processes which make it a core capability cannot be bought or developed in a short period of time. Rather, organizations must invest in CI and nature its evolution. Managers, however, need to benchmark their CI efforts before they address the questions of how much to invest and in what areas. This chapter provides guidance in addressing the benchmarking question in two ways.
