| Abstract: | This study develops a framework for analysing time-based competition and examines supply chain management strategies in make to order markets leading to cycle time reduction: crossfunctional product design participation, just-in-time purchasing systems with suppliers, improved supplier delivery and quality performance, and WIP lot size reduction. A model and measures were developed to assess the impact of these strategies on time-based competition. The model was tested using interview data with managers in 40 plants from 9 industries. |
