Abstract: | In the movie "The Gods Must Be Crazy", an airplane pilot drops a soda bottle which lands unbroken on a bushman tribe in the Kalahari desert. The bottle is very useful. It pounds grain, makes music, and holds water. But the bottle also leads to jealousy among members of the village. They all want to use that bottle. Finally, one of the tribal leaders, fed up with the social discord, takes the bottle away to throw it off the edge of the earth. The movie makes a crucial point - "advanced" technology leads to cultural change and cultural problems. |
