Abstract: | The incremental lifting machine (ILM) was designed by the American Aerospace Medical Research Laboratory to provide a controlled test of lifting strength. The entrance of women into non-traditional civilian and military roles requiring physical strength raises questions about the adequacy of screening devices, such as the ILM, to accommodate female workers. The purpose of this study was: to examine gender differences in the performance of a preemployment selection test, and to formulate recommendations regarding analyses of selection fairness. |
