Abstract:It is difficult to conduct statistics as to the area of varieties of development zones in China. It is estimated that the developed area is about several thousand square kilometers, the planned area is tens of thousands square kilometers. Millions of people are attracted and work there. The output value of development zones has exceeded 100 billion yuan or even more. Only for the first batch of 14 development zones in the coastal open cities, their industrial output value amounted to o.3 billion yuan in 1986, 4.2 billion yuan in 1988, 14 billion yuan in 1991 and topped 70 billion yuan in 1994. The level of the growth rate of development zones is far higher than the average level of the whole country.
