| Abstract: | The City is preparing for economic and monetary union despite the uncertainty surrounding UK membership. Meanwhile foreign banks - many long established in London - look set to stay in the capital. Coming, ready or not. It is now accepted that in one form or another, with however much flexibility and figure fudging proves necessary, the European single currency will become reality in 1999. It remains uncertain how many countries will qualify and be included in economic and monetary union. |
