Abstract: | Its economy in a shambles, Pyongyang is hard-pressed to feed its people. In time , hunger could trigger an exodus of refugees from North Korea and bring the country to its knees. It's late evening, and already Sinuiju seems a ghost town. The North Korean city of 700,000 is enveloped in a dark gloom. The only lights visible from the Chinese side of the Yalu River illuminate a giant portrait of the late President Kim Il Sung, gazing serenely across the water in the general direction of Dandong. |
