Abstract: | The textile and clothing industries have a long history of negotiations on special international trade regulations. The purpose of this paper is to examine the position of Belgian textile and clothing firms on trade policy: do they favour protection or trade liberalization? Observations on textile and clothing firms' positions were collected in an industry-wide survey. The authors test the hypothesis that textile and clothing firms take a more liberal position on trade policy issues when: they face less international competition, have foreign establishments , are more differentiated. |
