Abstract:The results of an analysis by arranging figures in tables show that the coastal area's economy grew faster than the inland area's. For instance, the per capita GDP in the coastal area was 1.45 times and 1.97 times that in the central area and that in the eastern area respectively in 1984. The above figures, however, were up to 1.87 times and 2.27 times respectively in 1994. The gap between the central inland area and the western inland area tends to be narrowed . The coastal area's economy grew faster just because of the state's policy support, its better foundation in economy and sci-tech as well as its relatively favorable geographic conditions.
