Abstract: | From hurricanes to industrial accidents, fires to riots, planning and managing for a crisis seeks to mitigate the devastation a disaster can wreak on a business. A rule often referred to by experts in the area of disaster recovery states that "80 percent of companies lacking a well-conceived and tested contingency plan go out of business within two years of suffering a major disaster" (Brown 1993). Nevertheless, despite past disasters and the millions of dollars of damage they have rung up, many organizations are not prepared for a catastrophe to occur. |
