Abstract:Strategy is about operating in the future as well as today and conventionally addresses a timeframe of years. But conventions are often casualties of change, and the technical and economic factors in the manufacturing environment are changing too rapidly for this one to hold. Strategic thinking used to be an optional extra. It should now be an ongoing concern, integral with the management process, not just a quinquennial event. Today's long-term is no more than yesterday's short-term.
