| Abstract: | This paper presents stylised findings from economic theory and empirical evidence concerning the effects of trade liberalisation in manufacturing on the environment. The study is divided into two main parts: (1) general findings on trade liberalisation and its environmental impact; and (2) more specific empirical findings for recent trade agreements, and for specific industries and countries. The paper also considers evidence on the evolution of pollution intensities in the developing world compared to those in OECD member countries. |
