Abstract:Non=-tariff barriers to trade (NTBs) are measures that include a wide variety of both non-discriminatory and bilateral impediments, other than tariffs, that restrict or modify international trade. Even though many measures have been found to affect international trade patterns, the most commonly used NTBs are antidumping duties and quantitative restrictions such as quotas and voluntary export restraints (VERs). In this paper, the authors provide empirical evidence on the welfare costs of NTBs.
