Abstract:This article reviews two recently published books by leading analytical Marxists, John Roemer (1994) and Erik Olin Wright (1994). After defining this "new school in progressive social thought", Wright's approach to eclecticism, pluralism and realism is discussed before elaborating his typology of inequality. Thereafter, Roemer's innovative general theory of exploitation and class is considered and it is suggested that this contribution is useful in that it provides a robust definition of exploitation.
