Abstract:The Internet is becoming the world's largest public electronic marketplace. It is estimated to reach 50 million people worldwide, with estimates of 10 % monthly rate of growth. Innovative business professionals have discovered that the Internet can be exploited to offer a number of services both for their customers and for their strategic partners. The Internet has also revolutionized direct and retail marketing. Although Internet marketing has a tremendous potential for businesses and consumers, it may also cause privacy violations. The balancing of beneficial uses of these data sources with the privacy rights of individuals truly is one of the most challenging public policy issues of the information age.
