| Abstract: | The Asean nations began liberalizing their trade policies in meaningful terms in the mid 1980s and, using foreign direct investment, have achieved impressive export-led economic growth. These nations are now embarking on a bold plan to create an Asean Free Trade Area with tariff rates of zero to five percent by the year 2003. Trade liberalization in the Asean region has proceeded in a context of overlapping but somewhat different frameworks that include Afta, WTO, APEC forum. |
