Abstract:Of all the industries, stock market and real estate are hitted hardest after the Asian financial turmoil. We should notice the considerable "bubble" element in Hong Kong stock market for the stock index rose to 16000 points in July, 1997 from 12000 points in March, 1997. It would be, on the contrary, favorable to promoting the social welfare of Hong Kong if the "bubble" element in the building price is squeezed and rent cost reduced. Therefore, the government should not take the intervention policy. The increased investment of the mainland in infrastructure will make Hong Kong get direct benefit though it doesn't aim directly at promoting Hong Kong's economic development. If these projects with imported equipment attached are put on Hong Kong's financial market, Hong Kong's transit trade and the related industries will also get benefits.
