| Abstract: | This paper begins to explore the problems and challenges encountered by franchisors during franchise system development, by defining stages in this development process from establishment to high market penetration. The authors believe that knowledge of system development will provide insight into reasons for the differential growth and survival of franchise systems. The stages model of small business growth is the dominant framework describing the process of small business growth. |
