Abstract:The author states that Kenneth Himma argues for a limited permission to prefer candidates for admission to educational opportunities and for employment on the basis of color or gender. With this argument, he steps into the middle of a controversy by now 30 years in the festering, to which at a much earlier date was contributed. The author argues that all such preferences were unjustified, and that seems to disagree with Himma's thesis, hence the invitation to take him on. The author states that the first task will be to get very clear on just what Himma does say and does not say, so that does not end up boxing with straw men in defense of the author's position.
