Abstract: | Despite the benefits, the very nature of knowledge assets could lead to costly errors when deciding whether to exercise real options on them. The authors answer the question - how firms can make the right investments to create a competitive advantage in the high-velocity environment of the new economy. The broad consensus is t that they must invest in knowledge assets, which form the basis of a dynamic capability. Unfortunately, standard investment tools taught in business schools, such as discounted cash flow (DCF) models, discourage investments in intangible and uncertain assets such as knowledge. |
