Abstract: | By 2000 much of Asia was on the way to recovery, though Indonesia remained strife-ridden, and it would not be unreasonable to ask why this collection merits attention. There is already a burgeoning literature on the crisis and the serious analyst may ask how much more needs to be added. The authors' view is that the multidisciplinary approach offered by the authors of this volume offers some additional insights into what is largely seen as an economic and political phenomenon. It particular, the authors stress the cultural context of the crisis and in particular the specific characteristics of business and politics in the South East Asian region. The authors also cover some novel areas - information technology, tourism and trades unions. |
