Abstract:The suthors examine cross-national differences in parental age expectations, consumer socialization and the relationship between these variables and reciprocal parent-child communication. Parents from the United States held earlier developmental timetables than Australian, Japanese, Greek and Indian parents. Reciprocal, concept-oriented family communication was related to early developmental timetables, parental control of children's television viewing and the frequently that parents shop with their children.
