Abstract:When developing new drugs, many parts of an organization must come together to collaborate. Sharing knowledge reduces risk, speeds time-to-market and reduces employee frustration, to name a few. The author answers the question when it comes to proving it, what can be done to measure the level of connectivity and networking. The author takes us through the steps his group uses to measure success in hard and soft ways in an R&D setting. The paper states that to discover, develop and commercialize novel therapeutics for treating human disease, Aventis uses project teams as the core structural unit of its matrix system. Its R&D centers are in the US, Europe and Japan and its clinical trials may occur around the globe.
