Abstract:This issue of the journal consists of a range of articles that were first presented as papers at a conference, organized by Celia Lury and Angela McRobbie and held at Goldsmiths College in June 2000, called Reinventing Feminism. The conference sought to ask what it does mean to think politically now. Situating itself in an era of ambivalence, uncertainty and insecurity, looking back to what might have been, and forward to what is not yet, the conference focused on how to think about politics today. The author states that in an era of post-socialism, it asked what can and should feminism contribute to the critique of capitalism. As new forms of power emerge - to do with the 'new' biology, the rise of information, multiple claims of entitlement tied to grievance and suffering.
